    WHAT'S NEW

Here is where we try to show what is happening here at Hobbs' Ink.

The photos on this page will change, but, at any one time there are usually half a dozen of our remodel or custom home designs that are new or currently under construction.  We'll also try to spotlight our buildings that, while of standard construction, are not what you'd think of as a "traditional" home design.  These may include our barn designs, workshops, casitas, guesthouses and others.  Look in our Out of the Ordinary section for more on these.

If you would like to know about these or want to discuss a project of your own, send us an email, or give us a call at (512) 261-6226 and we would be glad to give you the details.

HILL COUNTRY FUSION

Currently being built by Integrity Builders (Byron Ehlert, Principle; Dale Freytag, Associate).

Artistic Baby Boomers downsizing to studio-like home

This home was designed for an artistic couple who were downsizing from a home in a more established neighborhood to this property in a more eclectic area. We find this sort of design program is more and more common as the Baby Boomers age. The steeply sloping lot was chosen for its view of the hills beyond and because the owner saw possibilities for native landscaping when the project was done. They wanted to keep costs at a minimum in order to keep monthly bills low and change to a more relaxed lifestyle where they could pursue their art more of the time.

Ranch Cabin

This home on rolling terrain in the Hill Country will serve as a family retreat/second home. Simplicity and openness were key to the design program.

The sleeping porch and bunk room loft will accommodate lots of kids while everyone can gather in the great room.

Native materials including peeled cedar porch columns and local stone complementing other low maintenance selections. The owner is using salvaged materials for sinks and shower walls. An old kitchen table will serve as a work island.

The family anticipates many happy weekend and summer days there.
